the amalfi coast

After Rome we decided to take a bit of time exploring the Amalfi coast since we were heading in that direction anyway. We intended to find a hostel in Sorrento, but instead ended up finding a really lovely hostel/B&B in Piano di Sorrento, which is right outside and was much cheaper (and a quick train ride away). An amazing family run business, these people went well out of their way to make us feel at home, and when you've been on the road for quite some time, that kind of good intention from people really stands out. From Piano di Sorrento, we made day trips to places like Pompeii (where we saw the Roman ruins which were amazing), Sorrento (fun small touristy tour with a pretty chill vibe, Capri (cute little island but a bit too posh), and Amalfi. Oh, and Naples.
To sum that up... it was exhausting and stressful as it was chock a block full of gypsies; a congested little city with zest and confusion and massive energy that doesn't quit, the best pizza (possibly in all of Italy), and constant traffic amidst the chaotic cluster of pedestrians, motorists and no clear road rules (read: loud honking no matter what time of day).

We really loved this area of Italy, and it gave us a chance to slow down (with the exception of Naples) from the rush of touring Rome, and go at a bit of a more chilled out pace.
